Do you know how to listen to your BODY and your MIND? …
Do you know the difference? … There’s a big difference between deciding not to workout because you are tired and can’t be arsed and deciding not to because your body feels fatigued and is telling you to rest …. Listening to your body and understanding the difference between these two does take time so don’t worry if when hear the phrase “listen to your body” you feel like you’re not sure how to! Like anything it comes with practice!
As a general rule to go by to help with this ….
If the symptoms are above your shoulders ….
The voice in your head saying sack it off
Feeling anxious - tricky one this as when feeling anxious both exercise and resting/ having calm time can help so this one is down to the individual and they manage anxiety so it’s on both
A snotty nose Bit of a stuffy head / mild headache
Cold like symptoms …..
Then I would still train / or at least do some form of exercise / movement.
If the symptoms are below my shoulders ….
Body aches /heaviness - flu type symptoms
Chest pain / coughing a lot
Stomach / digestive upsets
Constant doms / soreness from training
A high temperature
Feeling anxious - tricky one this as when feeling anxious both exercise and resting/ having calm time/ meditating/ breathing exercises can help so this one is down to the individual and they manage anxiety so it’s on both
Then I would rest , get hydrated, refuel my body with nutritious foods, meditate and have calm time to switch off.
You will over time learn to recognise when you WILL benefit from exercise and when you WONT - you won’t always get it right every time but as long as you are AWARE of what your body is trying to tell you then you will get better at LISTENING to it 💜 💫
